Ipoh is a city located in Malaysia, which is the capital of Perak State. This city was famous for the tin mining industry a long time ago, which is a major economic contribution locally. However, as the global price of tin plummeted, this industry gradually declined, and Ipoh also seems to lose its glory. Ipoh has beautiful natural scenery and a rich history and culture. In recent years, with the rapid development of local tourism in Malaysia, Ipoh has once again become a popular attraction for local and foreign tourists alike, and this city back to the prosperity of the past. I have an enjoyable moment in this city in 2018, so I want to share my experience, there's plenty to see and eat in Ipoh! 

1. Appreciating stunning river view of Gunung Lang Recreational Park

Gunung Lang Recreational Park is a big park nearby a man-made lake, which is located under the limestone hills of Gunung Lang and Gunung Bilike. You can take a tour boat to view the stunning river view and visit another side of the park. The main attraction of the park including waterfall, mini zoo, tower, playground, and Malay-style building, and you can enjoy the relaxing breeze while having a stroll along the boardwalk. When I visited the park, the jetty crowded with a lot of visitors, so I don't go to another side of the park.

2. Ipoh Concubine Lane historic alley

Ipoh Concubine lane is located in Old Town session of the city, there are over 20 antique centuries-old houses nestled on this street. The street upgraded by locals in recent years, which becomes a popular tourist attraction. The history of the street originates from a rich man gives this street his concubine as a gift, for accepting rental fees. Nowadays, houses transform into shops, such as restaurants, handicraft shop, and hotels. This short and narrow alley attracts bustling tourists, which add new prosperity to this old street. 

3. Historical castle-Kellie’s Castle

Kellie's Castle housed at the inconspicuous hillside for almost a hundred years, which a 40 km drive from the city. This castle is well-known for its special architectural design and strange legend. Although this castle was not finished building, it shows majestic appearance in the eye of tourists.

4.Visiting caves

Ipoh has a lot of magnificent limestone caves,  and the shape of stalagmites and stalactites inside the cave looks fabulous. I visited 3 caves during this trip, including Perak Cave, Kek Lok Tong Cave, and Tempurung Cave. Perak Cave is located in the vicinity of the highway toll exit. There is a temple in the cave, while the high golden statue of Buddha makes all visitors feel worthy of respect.
If you fancy yourself as an adventurous trip lover, you can explore Tempurung Cave with sports attire, as you need to cross the stream in the cave. Kek Lok Tong Cave is indeed extraordinary when you go inside the cave and see the stalactites under the sunlight, which looks amazing and magical. Another side of the cave is a beautiful garden with a scenic backdrop of green hills, which makes me marvel at the magic of nature. I can feel a very cool breeze when strolling along the cave, which is a wonderful experience.

5.Buy biscuits in Ipoh New Town

Ipoh New Town occupies a busy place in the city, and there are many well-known traditional bakers. The freshly baked biscuits in the shop are fragrant in the air so that the visitors mouth-watering. Visitors can buy traditional biscuits as souvenirs, can be said to be dazzling. They are suitable for self-eating and giving away, including fragrant biscuits, chicken biscuits, wife biscuits, Sakima, bun muffins, Jiayangjiao, etc. The taste of the biscuit explodes onto your palate.

6. Get a taste of Thean Chun

After going to Concubine Lane, you may come to Thean Chun restaurant opposite the street, and you can relish in a variety of Ipoh's specialty food. This restaurant is quite well known in the city and filled with a lot of customers all the time. We tried one of the famous desserts here, which is caramel custard. The custard tastes smooth and drizzled with sweet caramel. The taste is a bit sweet, and you can feel chill as it served up coldly from the refrigerator. Apart from that, the restaurant offers a lot of delicious local foods that are worth trying, such as satay and sar hor fun (rice noodles served with chicken and prawn). 

7.Sample delicious dessert-Soya Beancure (Tau Fu Fah)

Tau Fu Fah would no doubt one of the must-try desserts of Ipoh, so there are several restaurants operated there, selling a great variety of Tau Fu Hua. I went Ding Feng Tau Fu Fa in Concubine Lane, including traditional Teo Chow Style, served with white sugar or ginger syrup, and also a new style Sea Bird Nest. This delicious Tau Fu Fah attracting local and foreign TV programs filmed here for a recommendation. Tau Fu Fah seems smooth and exudes the luscious aroma of sugar, and melt directly on your tongue. It is so refreshing to have this dessert under hot weather. 

8. Feast on Ipoh bean sprouts chicken and salted chicken

Ipoh bean sprouts chicken is one of the local specialties, which is served with rice or har fun. The sublime combination of tender chicken and crunchy bean sprouts is quite savory for some diners. Salted chicken is baked with various types of Chinese herbs, and you can smell the aroma in the air. The succulent taste of chickens makes your taste bud awake.

9. Try on Big Tree Foot Yong Tau Foo

Big Tree Foot Yong Tau Fu offers a variety of yong tau fu and fried ingredients, while the choices of the soup including light soup, curry or laksa. Although the fried dish a bit high calories, it's worth trying once if you eat together with noodles!

10.Sip on a cup of white coffee

Ipoh White Coffee is an iconic drink of Malaysia, which is a popular handicraft for the tourist globally. If you come to Ipoh, you can try a cup of white coffee in any local restaurant. The white coffee is a strong brew with a nutty taste, whether it is served hot or cold.
